What kind if math do auto mechanics use on a daily basis?

Im starting an automotive certificte program at longview community college and my weak point is math….I am wondering what i should study before classes start?
also, any books I should read about cars that might help me out?

The only math I use is the amount of hours I have left before I go home lol. Just playing. Anyway’s math come’s into effect when you have to measure various items. You use a micrometer, dial indicator’s, pressure guages and etc. Being weak at math shouldn’t really hurt you too much. Hands on is the best type of work.

Take the car to your nearest Dodge dealer and they can look at the damage and give you a price on parts and labor. It will be less than you paid for the car. I think.

What is the max horsepower that you can put on an auto transmission?

Im just wondering if there was a limited amount of hp that you can put on an auto trans.

Depends on the transmission. A Muncie M22 is better than a 350 turbo and can handle more torque and horsepower. The way its made is more of a variable than if its automatic or manual.

Is it possible to put an auto stick transmission in a manual Beetle?

I have a 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle. It’s a convertible and I love it! I am learning how to drive the manual transmission and having a bit of trouble. I have heard that Beetles had an auto stick transmission in the late 60’s to early 70’s. Is it possible to put one of these auto stick transmissions into this Beetle? How much work is involved in something like this?

yeah its possible and pretty simple and straight-forward. the hardest part will be finding a good auto-stick transaxle since they are pretty hard to come by. i did the opposite swap about 1.5 years ago. you will need the vacuum canister, the tranny, the shifter and shift rod that goes to the auto-stick tranny, torque converter, pressure plate and flywheel, and auto-stick pedal cluster. the rest is a simple swap of the parts.

Where to find complete auto parts list or catalog?

I am looking into opening a much needed auto parts store in my town and need to purchase inventory, and I don’t want to franchise. I would love to obtain a list of inventory that the big names have like NAPA or AutoZone, but I know that may not happen.

Does anyone know where I can get a book catalog, or a complete list of inventory for consideration in my new venture?

Wholesale suppliers would be your best bet. They know the most common and fast moving parts and can supply you with a good start up inventory list.
