I plan to major in accounting, but i really want to do auto mechanics on the side. I want to fix and restore?
old cars, drive them, and pass them on and sell them. How can i manage this and a full time job at the same time? I don’t know the first thing about auto mechanics, but i really do want to learn.
I agree with ‘Comfortably Numb’. As long as you are not in a hurry and are reasonably mechanically inclined, you can teach yourself most of what you need to learn about auto mechanics from repair manuals (about $20) and online. If you have a friend or relative to consult as needed, it can only help.
Auto mechanics alone is a full time job. In your case, if you’re not crunching numbers in a ledger somewhere, then you are under a hood with a wrench or whatever. No easy way around it. But if you did find a way to manage both fields, then more power to you.

A lot of auto mechanics courses offered at your community college are scheduled to take place at night, and some have weekend only courses.
If you don’t want to take the course, you can just grab the course material (i.e. an automotive technology textbook), and learn at your own self-pace. However, you may not be able to perform the "labwork" outside of a school environment.

I am not sure about accounting part but for auto mechanics part my friend mark bought an old beater. an 85 civic for only 500 bucks a couple years ago. He used the internet and repair manuals. He went from doing small stuff like learning how to rotate tires to chaining oil and different filters and flushing out fluids and eventually doing harder stuff like trany swaps. His civic runs pretty good now and he has learned a lot about cars. He still doesn’t know a lot like rebuilding or body work repair but he just started a couple years ago and i imagine he will prob get to it. Right now hes going to school as a law clerk in community college and he just does car stuff as a hobby.
