I count the number of beers I have on hand minus the amount of beers I plan to drink and come to the amount of beers I have after I'm done.

If you're BAD at math...go into sales. Otherwise your career as a mechanic is going to be limited...actually I take that back. It should be okay...as long as you understand what the tools are telling you. You'll be a "crutch mechanic" but...there are plenty of those who do that for a living. The truth is being a mechanic is an engineering discipline without the heavy thinking. You're only working on cars...mechanical engineers work on just about anything.

Simple repairs...limited math. Rebuilding an engine or building a race engine...a whole lotta math. (see what I mean by limited?)

The thing is the math you need for everyday life in just about any field (except heavy sciences and engineering) you should've learned in high school. If you spent high school goofing off (like me!) then you need to work 2x as hard in college. Besides...it's not like there's attractive women in your cc program.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...there's no more room in the world for crappy mechanics. If you come into it saying "cars are my passion" versus "well...it's a career" you'll do well. If it's the other way around you'll hate your life 5 years out. It's more zen than anything. Problem solvers are good mechanics (and engineers), "it is what it is" persons are not.
References :
The only math I use is the amount of hours I have left before I go home lol. Just playing. Anyway's math come's into effect when you have to measure various items. You use a micrometer, dial indicator's, pressure guages and etc. Being weak at math shouldn't really hurt you too much. Hands on is the best type of work.
References :
Any math you would use are in the books. After 27yrs as a auto tech don't use much on a daily bases. Books are your life line in this industry, My main field is transmission repair and rebuilding, I use seminar books more than anything. AC delco has a great training website for student and techs
References :
Let your insurance company handle it. That's what you have insurance for.

Unless you have a really high deductible you are much better off just letting insurance take care of it. You did file a police report didn't you? If my brand new Challenger was almost stolen I know I would have.
References :
Take the car to your nearest Dodge dealer and they can look at the damage and give you a price on parts and labor. It will be less than you paid for the car. I think.
References :
Depends on the transmission. A Muncie M22 is better than a 350 turbo and can handle more torque and horsepower. The way its made is more of a variable than if its automatic or manual.
References :
NOCTI Certified / PA State Inspection Mechanic

Contact someone like Federated Auto Parts, who ever contacts you will help you on this subject. There are other parts wholesalers across the nation that would also help. You just need to find the ones that cover your area.
References :
http://www.federatedautoparts.com/
